Location

Marsden Tract Group Campground
We are site number #4, which you can access via bike or on foot from the C&O Towpath.

Marsden Tract is separated into two stretches. Our site is accessible via the second entrance to the campground just across the Towpath from the Marsden Footbridge.

While you can drive in to drop off your stuff, overnight parking is not allowed in the small lot across the Marsden Footbridge. Overnight parking is only allowed at Carderock Recreation Area, which is only 0.7 miles away from the campsite. You do not need to pay for a permit for overnight parking here.

Description

We're heading back to Marsden Tract Group Campsite, site 4, just 10 miles outside of DC!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please be advised that I will no longer be providing food, water, or snacks for these campouts, so be prepared to feed and hydrate yourselves for the weekend!

This campground has a potable water pump across the Marsden Footbridge and portable toilets.

Our particular site is right on the Billy Goat Trail Section B, and just 3 miles from Great Falls, so we'll be able to squeeze in some walks and views during the weekend.

This campground is pet friendly, so feel free to bring your furry friends! Pet owners should be prepared to supervise and care for their fur babies in accordance with park regulations.

You can find out more about Marsden Tract Group Campground here: https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/251544

Tickets are $15.00 to cover the cost of firewood and reservation fees.

Interested in getting there by bike? Jun will be leading a no-drop bikepacking trip out to Marsden Tract Campground starting at High Road Cycling in Georgetown (3210 Grace St NW Suite 100, Washington, DC 20007).

Rollout will be at 1pm, but I'll be there starting at around noon to meet everyone and grab some food.

We'll hop on to the C&O Towpath and take a super leisurely 11-ish mile ride to the campground. Be prepared to be in the saddle for around 1.5 hours (including breaks).

All bikepackers are expected to ride with a helmet, bring along a flat kit, lights, a lock, and other essentials, and have some familiarity with riding in a group and signalling.

If you are interested but don't have bikepacking experience, reach out to Jun asap, and preferably at least a few days in advance, at juniperdarwinyoung@gmail.com directly and we'll get you set up.

We'll ride back to Georgetown in the morning, with a rollout of around noon.
